On Rachel's recommendation, I've been reading "A Place of Quiet Rest" by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. This book is focusing on finding intimacy with the Lord through our devotional times, reminding me not to look at these times as a requirement from the Lord to appear "more spiritual" or another task to check off my To-Do List for the day but as a time to sit at the feet of the Lord, to really get to know Him and to be changed because of it.
"I must make a conscious, deliberate, daily choice to sit at His feet, to listen to His Word, to receive His love, to let Him change me, and to pour out my heart's devotion to Him.When I get into His presence, the whole world looks different. When I draw close to His heart, I find mercy where I know I deserve judgment; I find forgiveness for all my petty, selfish ways; I find grace for all my inadequacies; I find peace for my troubled heart; I find perspective for my distorted views. In Him, I find an eye in the midst of the storm. Oh, the storm around me may not immediately subside; but the storm within me is made calm.
And so the Father-Lover heart of God continues to call us into a relationship with Himself. He is seeking lovers. He is always thinking about us, always desiring our company and our fellowship; He longs to hear our voice and see our face.
Not until we make pursuing Him our highest priority and goal in life will we begin to fulfill the purpose for which He created us."

Isn't that book incredible? I was so challenged and so motivated to keep working at spiritual discipline. The Lord deserves it! And we will never be satisfied with anything less...we were created to bring Him glory and have fellowship with Him.
I too have struggled with getting up early and having the discipline to stick with my convictions (or New Year's Resolutions...whatever you want to call them!), but remember, the Lord is working in you, and it's HIS work...so ask Him for help! I never thought I could get up as early as I have been recently, but it has been so worth it. And He supplies all the rest I need. I'm convinced of it. I'm more tired when I sleep in sometimes!
You know what I mean...just be encouraged. He's doing a work in you, and He wants more of you! Isn't that so incredibly special to think about?
Love you!
Thanks for the words of exhortation. I've been praying for you this week and thanking the Lord for your faithfulness and devotion to Him, for your dedication to encourage those around you and desire to actively seek after the things of God. I've been praying through the book that I wouldn't just read it and walk away thinking "what a nice book!" I want to walk away a changed person, a person that is more disciplined to seek the heart of the Savior and that I might make my fellowship with the Lord my Highest Priority, for some day we will see Him face to face and I want to be found to be a servant that has done well for Him.
"For I know that my Redeemer lives,
And He shall stand at last on the earth;
And after my skin is destroyed,THIS I KNOW, That in my flesh I shall see God,
Whom I shall see for myself,
And my eyes shall behold, and not another.
How my heart yearns within me!"
Job 19:25-27
Amen! I am there with you!
Kelly- Thanks for that. I am reading Keep A quiet heart by Elizabeth Elliot and it has been so encouraging with the fact that we might not be able to change our circumstances but we can change our heart and response with the Lord's strength.
Thanks for being open and honest.

I just purchased that book after reading Rachels blog. I did Nancy's book on Lies Women Believe last year and found it to be so helpful. My mother was asking about a book for her secret sis and said she (the ss) requested a book by Nancy so I bought one for her too. I'll start it soon.
It's good to be connected with you Kelly. God Bless
Hi Kelly!
I don't know if you remember me but we met in KC when I went with Jenny to a church conference. I am a friend of Jenny K's and a fellow RN. Jenny sent me the link to your blog. How neat to see that you have joined the ranks of the blogosphere! I will be back to read more. I have been blessed by your writings that I have read. Keep up the great posts!
Hope to see you again some time.
By Christ's grace,
Lydia
